Dysparea is a world in the act of reconstructing itself, or perhaps re-imagining itself. It is a world beginning to find its feet: full of places to explore, things to repair, and in some cases terrible wrongs to right.
There was an Age of Divinity. It lasted for centuries, or perhaps not: Time was more fluid then. During the Age of Divinity, gods walked along side humanity. There were beautiful gods, and terrible gods, and gods that could devastate a person and reconstruct them simply by witnessing. There were gods of death, and time, and storm, and story; there were as many kinds of gods as there were people. This was a time of impossible things. Whatever existed before the Age of Divinity is lost to memory, completely faded even from the myths and legends of humanity. Perhaps some vestiges remain…
There was an Age of Shattering. Much of time died during the Age of Shattering, not even the demons know how long it lasted. Some gods died, others went mad, and some did both. They shattered mountains, scattered continents, turned cities to rubble and ash. They killed at least one of the moons. During the Age of Shattering, the death throes of the divine rewrote the world. Until, just as suddenly as it began, the Age of Shattering came to an end.
There was an Age of Quickening. When the Shattering finally stilled, the survivors of humanity rose from their hiding places to a new and broken world. For years, people have found their way across the world to rebuild their cities, to explore and commune, to learn. They discovered a world full of potential. Of a very new, very different magic. The Roil, That Which Is The Death Of Gods has spread across Dysparea. Demons, gods which refused to die even when their own divine order demanded they do so, roam some places still, occasionally rewriting their surroundings to their unintelligible desires. Much of Dysparea remains unknown, and much remains broken. It is dangerous and full of monstrous echoes of the Shattering. This is the Age of Quickening, our current Age.
